How to Boost Someone’s Self Esteem?

So how to boost someone's self-esteem?

There are a number of really easy ways to help boost someone's self-esteem but they all need the same thing…

Patience!

Think of it this way, if you have low self-esteem and don’t think much about yourself then you’re quite often doubting everything you do.

You also might be afraid of making mistakes or being laughed at. This can all lead to things taking a bit longer, which brings in the patience part.

So you’ve got the patience, or are really trying to be more patient, what else?

Ask for their help.

It’s natural for someone with self-esteem issues to have a really negative view of their own abilities.

What they need is for someone to show a bit of confidence in them so…

Ask for their help!

Try and make it a task which has a chance of showing off their skills and will make them feel good about themselves.

This is a great way to show them that you trust them and that they are important to you.

Another thing you can do is to recognize their feelings.

This might sound familiar! When talking to someone with confidence issues, it’s very easy to quickly counter any negative comments they make.

Instead, recognize their feelings and say that you’re there for them.

A good example of this is when they say something like “I feel so stupid”, try and avoid contradicting this straight away with “No you’re not, I think you’re really smart”

This can be hard to do at first but if you don’t change the way you respond to them, they will likely start listing why they think they are stupid!

Instead, try something like “I’m sorry you feel like that. What makes you think that way, did something happen?”

This shows that you recognize their feelings and it can also be the start of a productive conversation about why they feel like they do.

So that’s 3 ways to boost someone's self-esteem.

How about some other things you can try to help with low confidence and self-esteem problems?
