Hi, Jon here from Mindset Universe and I’m going to tell you how to reduce anxiety when public speaking. Or you can watch the video if you want?

By the way, how about a FREE download that can give you RAPID relief from anxiety, whenever you need it?

So, how to reduce anxiety when public speaking?

Well, first of all, do any of these symptoms sound familiar when you’ve had to speak in public?

  • Pounding heart
  • Shaky voice
  • Feeling dizzy
  • Stomach doing aerobatics

If not then you’re lucky, I’ve felt these quite a few times but the techniques that I’m about to share with you have a huge difference in calming these feelings of anxiety down!

Tip 1 — Make sure you’re interested in what you’re talking about!

I know this sounds obvious but please don’t commit to speaking about something that you find completely boring.

It goes without saying, the audience will notice!

If you have no choice and someone has ‘delegated’ you to talk about something, then try an approach to the subject that will spark your enthusiasm.

A great example could be a personal story of how you are related to the topic or use someone else’s experience to make it more interesting.

Doing this research will help you to become engaged in the topic which will also help to get your audience more engaged as well.

Tip 2 — Where are you going to speak?

Is this a physical venue or something online?

If it is physical then try and visit where you are going to speak to and get used to the surroundings. Think about where the audience will be sitting and if possible, practice part of your speech to see what the venue acoustics are like!

But what If you’re doing the speak online? Not a problem.

Applications like Zoom and Microsoft Teams have options to let you test your microphone which can be great for listening back to how you sound.

Whichever way your speaking, just try and get used to the environment before the speech, it’ll make the actual event that much easier.

Tip 3 — Deal with Hecklers respectfully but strongly!

When you’ve done a few public speaking events you’ll recognize that ‘hecklers’ are a hazard of the trade!

So how do you deal with a difficult audience member?

In steps:

  1. Be polite.
  2. Pay them a compliment or…
  3. Find something that you agree on!

Another thing you can do is to say something like “Thanks for that important questions” or “I really appreciate your comment” and then…

Either answer them directly or,

Tell them that you need some time but you will get back to them with an answer.

What else can you do?

Try and anticipate the hard questions.

If you read through your presentation and you mind says “what about that”, then try and have an answer for it!

And very finally…

From my experience the best way to get used to and being confident in public speaking is with 3 things:

So how do you feel?

Before we finish, it’s important to make sure that you’ve made notes on these techniques so you can use them in the future.

Thanks for reading and try not to worry when you don’t have to.
